About the firm

About Alter Accounting CPA, a construction-focused accounting firm

A public accounting practice built specifically for specialty trade contractors, custom home builders, and site and civil contractors.

Why construction, and why a specialist

Most accounting firms treat a contractor like any other client, and that's exactly where the trouble starts. Construction has its own language: percentage-of-completion revenue, work-in-progress schedules, retainage, over- and under-billings, and bonding requirements that hinge on the quality of your financial statements. A generalist can miss all of it.

Alter Accounting CPA exists to close that gap. The firm focuses exclusively on the building trades, specialty trade contractors, custom home builders, and site and civil contractors, so the accounting, assurance, and tax work is grounded in how your business actually operates.

Who you work with

Alter Accounting is led by a licensed Certified Public Accountant and IRS Enrolled Agent who works directly with every client. The person who scopes your engagement is the person who does the work, and signs the return.

That principal came to accounting by way of the trades. A Florida native and United States Marine Corps veteran, he worked as a journeyman electrician before earning his CPA. That time on the tools means he understands a job site, a bid, and a change order from the inside, not just from a spreadsheet. It's a perspective most accountants simply don't have, and it shapes how every engagement here is run.

What that background means for you

Discipline from the Marine Corps. Firsthand knowledge of how construction work actually gets done, from the electrician's side of it. And the technical credentials of a CPA and Enrolled Agent. For a contractor, that combination means an advisor who speaks your language on the job and holds the line on your numbers in the office.

Where we work
